Rating:

When reflecting back on the most memorable video games I’ve ever played, I must admit, Inspector Gadget is not a name that comes to mind. So when I was asked to review this game, I can honestly say I was less than enthused. I mean, Inspector Gadget was a cartoon hero of my little brother, growing up–I used to laugh and make fun of him for watching that show. To think of the payback he would now enjoy; after enduring years of humiliation. Well needless to say, I sucked it up, and took it like a man.
Inspector Gadget (this is the part my brother’s gonna love) was actually quiet enjoyable. It’s a platform-based game, set in the world of the Inspector, based on the actual cartoon series. The play was very similar to those old Game Boy styled games. It felt very familiar, yet up to date when played through my iPhone’s bigger display. There’s on-screen movement buttons to control his actions. You have the in-game option of switching character’s: Gadget, Brain, and Penny. For example, when playing as the Inspector, your equipped with his arsenal of gadgets. You can explore through six stages, while evading agents of the Mad Organization, and finding stolen treasure. The sounds and music, add to the experience, and put you in the action. There are also options for language, controls, sound, and even quick play.
I would recommend Inspector Gadget, but with one very big caveat: There’s no auto-save. This means you have to start over every time. You can’t switch off, go do something else, come back, and pick up where you left off. I hope the guys at Namco fix this flaw, through an update, if possible. It’s the thing that brought my rating down. Other than this downside–and it’s a big one–this game would be a winner…Got to go, my brother just called!
