WWDC 09 Keynote: My Take

The thing that comes to mind everytime Apple announces one of it’s Keynotes is that they never give their customers everything they want, and they usually offer up some things that weren’t expected. This year’s WWDC 09 Keynote was no exception. Although this year they did give their audience alot of what was expected.
We did finally got a date for the release of the much anticipated OS X update Snow Leopard. The price was the big surprise of this announcement. Snow Leopard will sell for $29 single copy, and $49 for a family pack. It’s set for a September release–Sorry Microsoft! (Microsoft recently announced it was releasing it’s Windows 7 OS in October.)
Apple once again updated their laptop line, with their eliminating the uni-body MacBook. Well eliminating is not totally correct. They beefed it up and made it the low-in MacBook Pro, as well as beefing up the rest of the MacBook Pro Line. Their still keeping the white MacBook, the one they just beefed up a couple weeks ago. They lowered the price on the MacBook Air, and the entire MacBook Pro Line. They re-added Firewire, and replaced the Express Card slot with an SD Flash Card slot on the MacBook Pros. Oh, I almost forgot, every MacBook Pro know has an unremovable battery, that boast better battery life. Upgrading their laptop line up was probably the announcement not to many expected.
We also got a release date for iPhone OS 3.0, June 17, 2009. Although it seemed that they dragged their demo of the OS out a bit too long. Sorry iPod Touch owners, once again you’ll have to pay $10 bucks for the privilege of upgrading. This version has all that was promised previously, as well as having a new feature called, find my phone. This feature, is a bit gimmicky in my opinion. The feature that still seems to be left out is having multi-apps opened at once. Yet over all not alot of complaints here.
To close out the Keynote, Apple announced (drumroll, please) a new iPhone. The iPhone 3GS, their calling it. It boasts faster speeds, a better camera with video capabilities, and a version with 32 GB of memory. The new iPhone will come in both black and white. And since my contract with AT&T is about to end, couldn’t have come at a better time. It will be available June 19, 2009.
Overall I was pleased with the announcements made today; but I’m sure there will still be those who were disappointed that there was no Tablet announced. I for one think it’s coming, but not before Snow Leopard, say maybe for this year’s Christmas Season. One can only speculate!
