iPhone 3GS: First Thoughts

Sweet!
My wife and I picked up our new iPhones 3GS’s this past weekend. So I’ve had a couple days of playing with it to give you my initial thoughts:
My Likes:
I love the form factor, as compared to my original iPhone Edge. It’s sleek, and has a smaller footprint than my original iPhone. The screen does seem crisper, as well.
The real power of the iPhone 3GS comes with it’s faster processor, and doubled ram. Powering it up, the 3GS comes to life almost immediately–as opposed to my old iPhone, which seemed to take minutes. Everything just seems to work faster and more responsive. My old iPhone just seemed to hiccup before executing an action, like it was second guessing itself. Well I’m sure the new 3.0 software plays a part, the iPhone 3GS’s new innards just seem to hum, like an engine of an exotic car.
When out and about, AT&T’s 3G service is like night and day compared to its older Edge Network. The downside is there are pockets around my area, where there is no 3G, thus my phone would revert back to Edge–Thanks AT&T for the spotty coverage! Luckily, right around my neighborhood 3G coverage is good; but as with most of you, in my house, I use my Wi-Fi network. Can’t do MMS yet! Once again, thanks AT&T!
Voice Control is a nice feature, that works quiet well. I tried it with various levels of background noise, and it preformed nicely with moderately loud background noise.
I opted for the big-daddy 32 Gb model, and am very happy with my decision. Value-wise you can’t beat it–just think, for an extra hundred bucks, you get double the storage. Couple that with the idea of a 2 year contract, and it just makes sense to get the bigger model. I mean, I won’t be eligible to get the new model next year because of the contract, so getting the best now means it’ll be relevant for a longer period of time.
I did snap a couple pics;but unfortunately haven’t played with the video yet. The Auto focus feature with the pics worked remarkably well, though I really want to test it more. I’ll more than likely do a follow up to this post, once I play with more features.
My Dislikes:
One of my biggest gripes with Apple has to be how cheap they are when it comes to the accessories packaged with its products. My original iPhone came with a cleaning cloth, and one screen protector. On the other hand, this new iPhone didn’t come packaged with either one. To carry my point a little further, My son just purchased an iPod Touch 32GB (which cost $400); and although it did come with a microfiber cleaning cloth, it had no charger. Jeeze Apple, lighten up will you? Other than that, and of course the problems with my carrier’s service, there really isn’t too much to dislike about the iPhone 3 GS. So far, another excellent product I’ve come to expect from Apple.

I love to read/hear techno-geeks (mean it lovingly) when they get the newest toys
Me its computers and stuff like that. I very rarely use my cell phone and can’t imagine paying $400 for a phone. Now I could really get into the netbooks you were talking about. Guess it is a question of whatever “floats your boat.” :0)
Delaney,
Thanks, I think?…LOL I think your missing the point, the iPhone is more than a phone–it is a computer! It just so happens to have a phone attached.
